Makerie Retreat in Boulder, CO May 5-7 2020
This in-depth workshop teaches all the necessary techniques to create a wide variety of punch needle projects, as well as incorporates a playful design exploration using hand-painted, reposition-able stickers to inspire unique design compositions. In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of how to rug hook and the methods used to finish a rug and turn it into a functional object. To deepen this approachable art practice, students will examine the sustainable use of alternative fibers by turning recycled clothing into needle punch fiber, and by adding novelty yarns and string into hooked rugs. The punch needle method is simple to learn, requires little space and is a repetitive, soothing craft for all ages and abilities. As a bonus project at the end of the retreat, students will learn how to create a beautiful open netted wire basket that can be used to store art materials (it’s perfect for yarn) or special belongings; or simply hang as a decorative object. The highest quality material kits, including an Oxford punch needle, reusable frame, and hand-dyed yarn, will be provided for this wonderful weekend workshop.
